| Why test? Teachers must take certification tests before
being licensed to teach, to be sure they are ready for the classroom. Comparing teachers. Analysts use those test scores to help measure the quality of teachers at a district or campus. Two yardsticks. Certification tests in Texas changed from one test, ExCET, to another, TExES, in 2002. That means each campus has two test score averages: one for more experienced teachers, who took the test before 2002, and another for newer teachers, who took the test in 2002 or later.
